Wood is a three time NCISAA Class 2A First team All-State selection who averaged 17.1 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 3.0 assists this season for Northside.
He is the second Niner to win the award for being the top player in North Carolina, as Mitchell Baldwin was the last 49er to win the award in 2001.
The past eight years, the Gatorade NC Player of the Year went to an ACC school, as that came to an end this week with Woods taking home the honor.
Woods was not only an exceptional talent on the court but an excellent student in the class room, as he has a 3.79 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Woods will be joining Torin Dorn next season, as the 49ers will be returning several key guys from last season.
