About two weeks ago we reported that Bernard Toombs, had indeed committed to Charlotte following the Niners heartbreaking loss to Alabama. Well, since then Toombs has begun to sing a different tune, not exactly a bad tune depending on how you look at it, just different.
"I'm plan on committing to Charlotte, but I want to wait until I get to my season year," Toombs said.
The extreme emotion after the Bama game, combined with the fact that he was somewhat put on the spot, could've added to the impromptu commitment.
"I must not have really understood the question," said Toombs of his commitment. "They are my leader, but I wanted to wait until my senior year to commit."
So far this season Toombs and his Spencer High School squad are posting a 6-1 record. Toombs sat out his 10th grade year to get his grades together and came back with a slow start to the season.
"I'm doing better now," Toombs said. "I'm averaging about eight points and eight rebounds."
Toombs is an accurate shooter in the paint, who favors the finesse game over the power game. Usually, Toombs uses his athleticism to beat his opponent, but does like to post up on occasion. When he does post up he likes to shoot the hook shot, which he hits fairly consistently.
"I would say I'm sort of like a Tim Duncan type," Toombs said.
There's no doubt that the new report on Toombs will have skeptics scouring the class of 2006 for his replacement, but according to Toombs, the search may not be necessary.
"It's just a big decision to make and I think I made the decision too early about committing to Charlotte," Toombs said. "Fans shouldn't give up hope, because I really like Charlotte."
Charlotte holds the lead over Auburn, Florida State and Penn State.
