Spring Ball: Quarterback

The quarterback position shouldn't be as exciting as it was for 49er fans heading into last season, as there was a ton of talk on who may be the starter to kickoff the season. Last year, it was Kevin Olsen who has ran his own course.

That led the way for quarterback Hasaan Klugh, who made seven starts last year and held a 3-4 overall record. Klugh ended throwing for 1,356 yards, 10 touchdowns and completed 53.6 percent of his passes. Furthermore, he provided he could be a dual-threat quarterback, rushing for 426 yards and eight more touchdowns.

Klugh is tagged as the Spring Practice starter, which is no surprise as the red-shirt junior looks to build on an excellent campaign this past season. What will be looked at is if Klugh can still provide that dynamic threat on the field and continue to build on his season throwing the ball as well.

Completing 53 percent of his passes this past season is certainly a solid number but one that can be built on. However, the most impressive number to look at is three, as in Klugh only threw three interceptions all year long; a stasticial category that has been troubling for the 49ers in the past.

Brooks Bardern is the back-up as of right now, as the red-shirt junior should be seeing some solid time to start this season. Barden didn't throw a pass last year, so it will be interesting to see how he works getting the second reps.
