Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte 49ers junior guard Jon Davis has been invited to two prestigious camps over the next three weeks. First, he will participate in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, August 6-9. Then, he has been invited to the Nike Basketball Academy in Los Angeles, California, August 15-20.
"I am really excited for Jon for the opportunity to get to participate in the CP3 Camp and the Nike Camp this summer," Charlotte 49ers coach Mark Price said. "It will be a great experience for him to be able to play against some of the top players in the country. Jon has done a terrific job over the last two years developing his game and putting himself in a position to be invited to these camps."
The Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp is comprised of the top 20 collegiate guards from around the country. Chris Paul hosts the camp each year bringing together the top players at his position to teach them the skills necessary for the next level. Paul is hands-on all week and will work out with the players at each session.
Davis joins the roster of the nation's top 20 collegiate players at the Nike Basketball Academy, which is an annual skills development camp. In 2015, Nike combined its positional skills camps and launched a new format with training, combine experience, off-court workouts, drills, films sessions, and 5-on-5 games. NBA greats that have participated in the Basketball Academy are Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and Lebron James.
"It is a blessing and a great opportunity to put myself and Charlotte on the map as a program," Davis said. "Being recognized for being one of the top 20 guards in the country going to Chris Paul's Camp and one of the top 20 players in the country going to the Nike Skills camp speaks to the hard work that I have put in. It is just a blessing and I am excited."
Last season, Davis earned second-team National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 11 honors as well as second-team All-Conference USA honors. He finished second in Conference USA in scoring at 19.6 points per game. He scored 588 points which is the ninth most points scored in a season in school history. He scored 35 points against Old Dominion, January 21, which was tied for the second highest scoring output in a game in Conference USA last season. Davis's 35 points in that game is tied for the second most points scored by a Niner in a game in Halton Arena.
In the 2016-17 season, Davis recorded 28 double-figure scoring games and 14 20-point scoring games. Davis, who recorded over 100 assists for the second straight season (126 assists), finished sixth in Conference USA in assists at 4.2 per game.
