6’10 Jailan Haslem Talks Commitment

Charlotte is on board with their newest commitment and it certainly is a big one. Jailan Haslem, a 6-foot-10 prospect announced on Wednesday that he would be committing to Charlotte, as it was announced on Niner Report.

We followed up on his decision, as Niner Report wanted to gather more details on what made he decided Charlotte was the place for him. Here is what Haslem had to say:

“Charlotte is a huge opportunity for me to come in and have an immediate impact on the team,” he said. “They didn't have much of an inside presence last year which hurt them but me coming in will give them that cushion to play their game and knock down open shots because of their guys doubling me. They are a very talented hardworking team with a great coaching staff surrounding them especially in our head coach Mark Price, whose achievements and accolades speak for themselves. All in all, I'm ready to make Charlotte the team to look out for next season.”

The Charlotte staff has really been working hard to land a player like Haslem, as assistant coach Houston Fancher has been speaking to him for quite some time now, both developing a solid relationship. They hope to use him to play the center position, as he can be a huge focus with his frame, offensive game, and rebounding capabilities.

“They have been especially Coach Fancher but they said they want me to be a big force in the middle who is an offensive threat and good outlet passer when I get double teamed. They told me they haven't had a strong inside presence in a while especially with Najee having to play the 5 but with me that will change.”

Charlotte has several more spaces for commitments but landing Haslem could be one of their biggest gets this recruiting season and now provides an inside presence Charlotte was missing last season.

Player Description:

“One of my strengths is my inside scoring. I have a traditional post game, back the basket, banging finishing strong. Another strength is I run the floor very well, I try to be the first one down the court every possession whether it's defensive or offensive. I also communicate on the court effectively and I always try to talk and let my teammates know what I see because usually the big man has the best vision of the floor. I'm also a very strong rebounder and I have a pretty good mid-range jump shot. But to sum it all up I'm a hustle player I dive for loose balls chase down defenders and do whatever it takes to win.”
