49ers Sign Seven-Footer Lukas Bergang

Charlotte, N.C. -- Charlotte 49ers head men's basketball coach Mark Price announces the signing of seven-foot forward-center Lukas Bergang from Sweden.
"I am excited to add Lukas to our roster," Price said. "He brings size and skill to our team. He has the ability to defend and be a defensive presence as well as stepping out making shots from the perimeter at his size. We feel he has a lot of potential and are excited to add him to Niner Nation."

This past season, he played for Sweden's Eco Orbero, which is in the top league in Sweden. He also has played for the U-20, U-18 and U-16 Swedish national teams in the European Championships.
In 2010, he averaged 18 points and 13.5 rebounds per game in helping his KFUM Goteborg team reach the final four of the Swedish Championships. He earned the player of the game honors that year in the semifinal game of the Swedish Championship.
Bergang joins redshirt sophomore Benas Griciunas, who is eligible to play this season for the 49ers after sitting out last season after transferring from Auburn University, Jermain Parker (1992-95), Alexander Kuehl (1996-97), Wade Helliwell (2000) and Martin Iti (2004-05) as the only seven-footers to play for the 49ers.
Bergang is the sixth player to sign with the 49ers since Coach Mark Price was hired in late March. The 49ers other signees are guards Ridell Camidge, Jon Davis, Curran Scott and Adrien White and forward Anthony Vanhook.
"I'm really happy and excited about joining the 49ers," Bergang said. "Coach Mark Price and the rest of the coaching staff made a great impression on me. I can't wait to get there and get to work."
