49ers get blasted again

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY - Five 49ers scored in double-figures led by E. Victor Nickerson's 18 points but Charlotte (18-10, A-10: 6-8) lost on the road at St. Bonaventure (14-13, A-10: 7-7), 104-83.

"We played with a lot of effort in the second half," Charlotte coach Alan Major said. "We did not quit in the second half. We need to take our second half effort and play the entire game that way."
Nickerson's 18 points was a career-high and he scored all 18 of his points in the second half. Nickerson also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Terrence Williams recorded his ninth double-figure scoring game with 17 points. Ivan Benkovic scored a career-high 15 points on five three-point field goals. Pierria Henry recorded his 14th double-figure scoring game of the season with 12 points. Chris Braswell recorded his 15th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 71st of his career with 10 points. Darion Clark scored nine points for the 49ers.
The game was close early with the 49ers trailing 6-5 after Pierria Henry made two free throws with 14:48 on the clock.
St. Bonaventure went on a 16-0 run over the next couple of minutes taking a 22-5 lead with 12:35 on the clock.
The 49ers behind a three by Benkovic and two Williams free throws cut St. Bonaventure's lead to 22-10 with 11:38 on the clock. The two teams exchanged threes after Benkovic connected on another three. Twelve points would be as close as the 49ers would get to St. Bonaventure the rest of the game. The 49ers trailed St. Bonaventure 53-24 at the half.
The 49ers began the second half on a 7-0 run behind the scoring of Clark and Nickerson cutting their deficit to 53-31. St. Bonaventure pushed their lead to 25 points. With St. Bonaventure leading 61-36 with 14:43 on the clock, the 49ers behind the scoring of Braswell and Williams cut their deficit to 61-40 just 45 seconds later.
St. Bonaventure pushed their lead back to 29 points on several occasions. At the 10:24 mark, St. Bonaventure led 73-45, the 49ers went on a 29-17 run over the next seven minutes cutting their deficit to 90-74 when Benkovic knocked down a three with 3:50 on the clock.
St. Bonaventure pushed their lead to 18 points on several occasions and the 49ers kept getting to within 16 points. Williams scored inside cutting Charlotte's deficit to 94-78 with 3:13 on the clock. However, that would be as close as the 49ers would get the rest of the way.
Next for the 49ers is a trip to Duquesne for their final regular-season road game, Wednesday, March 6 at 7 pm.
