Preview:
Last year, it was the first meeting between these two teams and in a rainy game, the 49ers/ Owls game was a tight one in the first half. But in the end, the defense for Temple stood strong in the second half and took home the 30-3 win at Charlotte.
Quarterback PJ Walker will lead the Owls again this year after throwing for over 2,900 yards and 19 touchdowns last season. Running back Jahad Thomas, another senior, will also be in the backfield after rushing for 1,385 yards and 17 touchdowns, giving the Owls two dangerous weapons coming into the season.
However, they only return six starters from last season on offense.
Defensively, they lost leading tackler Tyler Matakevich who had 138 total tackles and 10.5 TFL. But Jarred Alwan, Sean Chandler, and Nate Smith will all be returning to a defense that has been strong in the past two years. In the game against the 49ers, the defense was dominate through the air (131 total passing yards) but did give up over 220 rushing yards in the win.
Last season, the Owls were 5-1 at home with their only loss coming to No. 9 Notre Dame, 24-20.
