49ers hope to avoid rainout at State
The Charlotte 49ers will play their first game since February 15th on Tuesday against the N.C. State Wolfpack in Raleigh.
The 49ers won their first game of the season against the Delaware State Hornets 13-7.
They were able to get the win with a seven run second-inning, that was highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of senior third basemen Shane Basen.
The game also showcased a brilliant performance from relief-pitcher Hunter Mays who went 3.1 innings and allowed only a run. The 49ers couldn't complete the remainder of the series due to in-climate weather.
Left-handed pitcher John Hamilton is due to take the mound in the matchup against against the Wolfpack. Keep an eye on Hamilton as this game marks the first game in which he will assume his new role as a starter for the team, after being the team's closer for the past two years.
The Wolfpack came into the season ranked No. 8 in the NCAA rankings, but they lost their lone game this weekend 6-3 to Appalachian State.
In the game, the Wolfpack were only able to collect 4 hits. Shortstop Trea Turner collected two of those hits and scored two of the teams runs.
They also experienced inclement weather and were forced to cancel the last two games of their series. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:00 p.m.
