Baseball will head to Wake
EDITOR'S NOTE: The game was rescheduled for Wednesday at 6p.m.
The Charlotte 49ers (4-1) will play a road game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-3) in Winston-Salem on Tuesday.
The 49ers defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 7-3 on Monday to secure the program's 1000th win. The win marked the team's third straight win and it kept the 49ers undefeated at home.
The game was sloppy, as it featured a combined eight errors, with five coming from the Thundering Herd and three from the 49ers.
The Thundering Herd led 2-1 through two-innings, but the 49ers were able to add on three runs in the third thanks to two Marshall errors and RBI singles by Justin Seager and Derek Gallello. The team never lost the lead after that.
With his first start of the season, junior right-hander Brock Hudgens was able to go five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and fanning five Marshall batters. He was able to not only get his first win of the season, but his first win with the 49ers.
Outfielder Justin Seager was able to contribute to the win with a perfect day at the plate, going 2-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch. He currently leads the team with a .471 average.
John Hamilton is schedule to take the mound for the 49ers at the Demon Deacons on Tuesday.
In his first start since moving from the bullpen, Hamilton was able to go 6.2 innings, only allowing one earned run (1 unearned) and striking out five.
The Demon deacons have played nine games this season, winning six and losing three. The team is 3-1 at home thus far.
The first pitch is schedule to be thrown at 4 p.m.
