Going for 1000
The Charlotte 49ers (3-1) will play the last of three makeup games on Monday against the Marshall Thundering Herd (2-2) at Robert and Mariam and Hayes Stadium. The 49ers will go for the 1000th win in program history.
The 49ers won their third game of the season this past Thursday against the Pfeiffer Falcons 7-4. The game was highlighted by a four run second-inning, that proved to be enough for the 49ers.
The game featured a dominant pitching performance by Junior RHP Tyler Barnette. The right-hander was able to go eight innings, while only allowing two runs on six hits and striking out nine. He was also able to get his first win of the season. The nine strikeouts were a career-high for the pitcher.
In addition to the gutsy performance by Barnette, outfielder Brad Elwood had a fantastic day at the plate. The sophomore was able to go 4-4 and drive in three 49ers. Elwood is currently hitting .500 through four games.
Brock Hudgens will take the mound for the 49ers on Monday, as he will get his first start of the season.
In the 2012 season, the junior right-handed pitcher compiled an ERA of 3.77, appearing in fifteen games but going 0-3 in those contests.
The Thundering Herd have played four games this year, winning two and losing two. The two wins result from Old Dominion and North Carolina A&T.
The first pitch will be thrown on Monday at Noon.
