49ers look for two in a row
After two straight road games, the Charlotte 49ers return home on Thursday to take on the Pfeiffer Falcons at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. This game will be the first game at home that the 49ers have played since the season-opening win against the Delaware State Hornets.
The 49ers won their second game of the season Wednesday against the High Point University Falcons 12-3. The game was close at 5-3 through seven-innings, but it quickly changed in the eighth-inning, when the 49ers exploded for seven runs on 15 combined hits.
Senior Shane Basen had a great day at the plate, going 4-for-5 while also driving three runners in. He extended his career-long hit streak to 12 games. Basen is also perfect in two tries with the bases loaded thus far this season.
Relief-pitcher Hunter May received his second win of the season for the 49ers, pitching 3.2 impressive innings while giving up no runs. He allowed one hit and struck out 4. He gave up his lone base hit to the first batter he faced and was able to retire the last 11.
Tyler Barnette will get the nod for the 49ers on Wednesday, as he looks to get a win in his second start of the season.
His first start of the season didn't go as well as many hoped. Barnette lasted 3.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs (4 unearned), walking six and striking out four.
The Falcons have played ten games this year, only winning one. Note that they've played the sixth ranked team Catawba for four of the ten games, losing all four of them.
The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown Thursday at 4 p.m.
